Slainte Irish Pub & Restaurant, Baltimore, Maryland, Thursday Evening

Lydia assumed that Irish food was probably quite like English food, although perhaps with more potatoes, but who knew how that might have changed in the last two hundred years? Better to find out for oneself!

Thus, she had let the Supper Club attendees know to join her at Slainte Irish Pub & Restaurant on Thursday evening, and was now here herself, waiting for the others and wondering how on Earth one pronounced 'Slainte.'

Welcome to Supper Club, everyone!

Thor was getting into the spooky season spirit at The Devil's Nest, and ignoring any pumpkin spice-flavored shenanigans, of which he was sure there were many. Instead, he had selected a cocktail for the special board based entirely on the name, and now was trying to find out if they had any dry ice, or if he was going to have to run to the store.

Liz had been having a rather restless few nights sleep and she wasn’t feeling a hundred per cent that morning when she came downstairs that morning to get some work done.

She was only planning on staying for a few hours that morning, catching up on some emails and working on finishing up as much as she could get done downstairs that morning before she needed to move her work upstairs.

Oh dear. Liliana had discovered game shows and was having a delightful time yelling encouragement and invectives at the screen. "Oh, come on! You can do better than that! You froze halfway through! Bah, do none of you think under pressure? You poor fools, Ignis and I would destroy the competition in this game."

That's right, contestants from 1995. You'd be absolutely wrecked.

"Though, hmm...would I be expected to run?" That might put a damper on things.

Give her a few more minutes and she'd start coming up with ways to cheat.

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse, Thursday, Per 3

"So, last week, you scouted out possible places to make camp," Liliana said, once again standing in the park of the Danger Shop's mundane version of Fandom with no magical protections, futuristic technology, or various weird things that didn't fit in either of those two categories. "We had some arguments for the lighthouse, for the school, and even for Ingvar, bonus points for cleverness Illyana." It was an answer Liliana hadn't considered (she didn't, you know, Ikea), and a good idea at that, it got called out. "But that brings us to the next most important item: supplies. The general consensus is that a person needs one gallon per water per day, which increases for things like temperature, activity level, age, and pregnancy. While you can ration water if you need to, it's rarely a good idea unless you are literally on your last reserves, and even so, going down to less than a quart a day will leave you in very bad shape. A gallon per day will hopefully serve both for drinking and sanitation, but if you're rationing, stop worrying about sanitation as much as possible or look for alternatives, and conserve it all for drinking. Furthermore, if you're rationing, cut down as much as you can on strenuous physical activity, and try to remain inactive during the hottest parts of the day. If you start feeling confused or delirious, light-headed, dizzy, have heart palpitations, or are feeling faint, drink water as soon as you can; these are all signs of dangerously severe dehydration.

"Food, you do have a little more leeway. Most adults require between two thousand and twenty-five hundred calories a day to remain healthy at regular activity levels. With enough water available, that number can go down to about twelve to fifteen hundred - it's not great, but it's moderately sustainable, so long as your activity levels remain low. Much more than that, or with high activity, and you start to starve, even if you're still eating. Also, at those level, you want to be supplementing vitamins, because once you get down to about twelve hundred calories and below, your body is no longer getting enough nutrients and you'll start dealing with issues like anemia, tooth and bone loss as your body leeches calcium from those deposits, and heart problems. In addition to a loss of strength, stamina, and temperature regulation, you'll also start suffering from psychological distress in the form of fatigue, irritability, depression, and apathy, at minimum."

Think about how hangry you get when you skip lunch. Then multiply that by a million.

"After food and water comes sanitation. Dirty surroundings lead to bacteria breeding. Injuries that aren't properly cleaned can go septic. Bleach is an incredibly efficient supply, as it can disinfect surfaces and also water in a pinch. Wipes, soap, hand sanitizer, and bathroom sanitary supplies. Plastic bags are good for getting rid of garbage and refuse, as well as doubling as potential waterproofing and water collection items. A first aid kit is included in this, loaded down with antiseptics and clean bandages. We'll be talking about first aid and healthcare in a future class, but even without any training, just having the supplies on hand is safer than not. This is not, of course, everything you should think about getting on a supply run, but certainly the things to prioritize. Although, of course, there are additional factors you will need to figure out for yourselves during today's class."

What? Like Liliana was ever gonna make things easy on you!

"So, we're starting here in the center of town, where there is the greatest density of useful stores for you to peruse. You have the first five minutes to plan - unless it is a dire emergency where every second counts, you should always make time to plan. That will help you decide and remember what are the highest priorities, prevent people from wasting time duplicating efforts, and ensure that the actions you take align with the expected goals. Don't waste time getting heavy duty winter gear if the plan is to take off for the tropics. I highly suggest that in that five minutes, you decide where you're going take shelter and who all is going to be there. You don't have to all stick together - you can all plan to hide in separate places if you wish - but the number of people you're expecting to shelter with will affect what and how much you need to get."

Especially when it came to things like sanitation.

Large tarps came into existence around them, one for each student, next to a sign with their name on it. "While I did give thought to saying that you were stuck with whatever supplies you managed to get back to your chosen hideout, I decided that a closer focus on appropriate supplies is more important. So, the supplies you manage to grab and toss onto your tarp will be the supplies that you can consider to be 'safe' in your chosen hideouts. And before anyone asks, there is no stealing from other students's piles." She'd considered it, though. She'd absolutely considered it. "Unlike last week, however, there will be zombies roaming about the island. You can handle them however you wish, though remember, every minute you spend dealing with them is a minute you are not getting supplies."

So, less Supermarket Sweep, more Supermarket Sweep--with Zombies!

"All right then, class your five minute planning phase begins....now!"

The question was moot anyway, since she was entirely occupied with using craft foam, wire, and whatever else she had on hand to create a skeleton arm that looked like it was bursting out of a retired piece of wargaming terrain that'd been set up next to the register to look like a patch of dirt.

Saffron was judging the hell out of her, but that was only because it was a day ending in Y.

Well, let's see what another glorious Wednesday brought us, shall we?

Surely you recognise sarcasm by now. If not, that certainly explains a few things.

Anyway, notes. Up at the School, Space Pirates, Pirates in Space stepped out for a spot of brunch and took the class along. Because apparently pirates brunch. Health Education educated the class on avoiding the clap and other such diseases, while in the Library, Arden was witness to a gremlin chorus line.

Dorms continued theor quiet streak, while in Town, Prompto wondered how he was going to be an octopus about this at Furnado, Gray was having an existential waffle crisis at Over Easy, Flint and Henry were on the Beach where Henry was handling FLint's sword and commenting on the curve of it, and since I don't have anything in here about public indecency charges, we can assume this was his literal sword, not his figurative one.

Finally, over at the Devil's Nest, Octavia was philosophical about TIny's pumpkin spice obsession.

Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

It wasn't the sort of holiday which required taking off. Eating home more than usual, perhaps, particularly where Steven and Llewellyn had set things up on their balcony. But for this day neither of them were going to be too strict about it.

So Steven was at work. The posters regarding autumn related displays were hung and the brochures helping to guide people were out. The tomato plant upstairs had vanished as mysteriously as it had come - still not helping Steven completely rid himself of the theory it'd been a misplaced islander.

Which left things at the museum fairly normal. Which in turn made it a good day to do inventory. As such, when not with someone Steven could be found behind the desk, tallying up all the mugs, keychains, magnets, and other souvenirs that they sold.

He hummed a happy song to himself as he did. Even mundane tasks were enjoyable when you liked your work.

"Okay," Don said. "Today is the day we talk about what in my day they called STDs, but I was dead for awhile and apparently now STIs is the preferred terminology. Don't ever die and then resurrect, by the way, you'll find that they've changed all the terminology on you and discontinued your favorite yogurt, and also your friends have taken sides and staged pitched battles in the middle of Manhattan. Or maybe that's just me.

"Now, the best way of avoiding STIs--and pregnancy--is to not have sex at all, but we're all adults here and I don't think any of us are monks." And what happens behind closed doors in the monasteries is the monks' business, anyway. "So let's talk about the various forms of protection and how to use them."

Don got through the handwavey lecture and banana-involving demo on how to use things like condoms and dental dams with consummate professionalism, and when he finished he asked, "Does anyone have any questions?" before adding, "If you have any questions you don't want to ask in front of the class, you can see me afterwards."

Every once in a while, a more unusual animal than your usual dogs and cats and birds and gerbil came through the system, which usually meant Prompto would be spending a lot of time on the phone trying to find a better, more suitable place for that animal. This week, apparently, it was a large octopus, and he was honestly a little torn, because the huge tank they had actually wouldn't be a bad place for an octopus, but he still felt, as suitedfor dven Zora Princes as it had once been, it wasn't what was best for it.

Besides, Noctra was instantly fascinated, and he needed to figure out something before she got too attached and he wouldn't hear the end of octopuses (octopii???) for weeks.

Today class was being held at Cafe Fina, because, yes, your teachers had once again finagled their expense reports to justify brunch.

"So, food," Isabela started. "Any kind of pirate has to eat, but the downside of the open seas or the wilds of space is that they tend to be somewhat lacking in places to catch a quick bite."

"And rations suck," was Aphra's very eloquent contribution. "Half the reason they last so long is no one wants to eat them."

"Which is why when pirates do make landfall, one of the first things they do with their ill gotten gains is make for the nearest place of merriment to help sate all their hungers." All of them.

Aphra gestured with her mimosa. "So we're skipping the rations and going straight to that for this class."

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 10/8

Good morning, it’s Wednesday, again and I’m here, again. Not very notes today. Yesterday must have been quiet. That’s fine. Sometimes we all need quiet.

From the school we had 3 classes, as usual. During Reclaiming Your Childhood Ghanima took her students to ride a carousel in Brooklyn. Diplomacy students were told by Anakin and Ahsoka to pick people’s pockets. I’m not sure that’s diplomatic, Anakin. I think it may just be theft.

*chittering*

I am not being hypocritical I am just saying I don’t see how it’s diplomatic. I’ve no problem with stealing when necessary. Which has nothing to do with my Other People’s Trauma class where we talked about how trauma Olympics are bad.

*chittering*

I probably did learn it from her. Or a television show. Doesn’t matter.

Nothing from the dorms. Maybe we ought to look into the porg’s trauma…
But we have a couple of notes from the town.

First, Bucky came back from somewhere and immediately went to see Jesse who seemed very pleased he’d returned.

Finally, at Caritas Kitty was trying to stop Tino from doing terrible things to drinks. Maybe he misses Summer? Steve came in and heard about the unpleasant beverages and decided on a pumpkin beer instead of anything Tino made. Very wise, Steve.

That’s all I have. Try to have a good Wednesday, everyone.

Fandom Library, Wednesday, October 8th

The gremlins were crawling around, dressed as dogs today. Normally, this would have Arden guessing that it was some kind of weird Halloween thing, or wondering if there was some kind of uber-gremlin with venom so powerful that it affected other gremlins.

But then they started moving in clear choreography and Arden finally (and regretfully) understood what was happening there. She pulled out her phone and checked a few things and--yup. DOGS had debuted on Broadway on-- October 7th. Today was the 8th. So either they had been celebrating for an entire day or someone had gotten the dates wrong and, either way, Arden wasn't going to point it out. They were being quiet and self-entertaining and, honestly, it could be worse.

They could have been celebrating Moonlight Express and acting like a bunch of trains.
