Weather & Storms, Friday, Second Period

The students should have received a message telling them to dress warmly today, since even though everything was happening in the Danger Shop it wouldn't do to have it be warm during a snowstorm. Sort of ruined the whole atmosphere of the thing. (Atmosphere, get it? Well, it was funny to Thor.) Upon entering the Danger Shop, they would find themselves inside of a pavilion protecting them from a heavy snowfall. A low rumbling sound was audible in the distance.

"Thundersnow is a rare phenomenon," Thor told his students. "It is, simply enough, a snowstorm that produces thunder and lightning, or a thunderstorm that produces snow instead of rain, depending on how you look at the matter. The heavy snowfall tends to muffle the sound of thunder, making it sound more like--" the low rumble sounded again, and Thor smiled.

"I thought that for the rest of today's class, you might enjoy playing in the snow. During a true thundersnow event, you should take the same precautions you would for any lightning storm, of course, but this is a simulation; you are quite safe. Anyone who does not wish to venture out of the pavilion is welcome to stay here and enjoy some hot chocolate."

Fandom Radio - Friday (11/14)

You sure I'm supposed to be in here?

*encouraging squirrel noises*

I'm not a Disney princess here, but I'm gonna assume that's a yes. Oh, we're live. Okay. Hey, Fandom. This is Riri Williams and I think I've been drafted into helping here.

So, we start at the school apparently. The Baking class did pizza... and I know they weren't going off on deep dish. Because that'd be wrong. Maybe people on the east coast are just too dainty for it or something. Food Adventures had a whole lesson on Greek food. Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse had the class fight them off in a spa. Huh. Maybe I shoulda taken that class. Belle read to the gremlins at the library and I'm just gonna pretend it's a slang term I don't know even though I know it isn't.

In town, Steven looked up old stuff that's happened here at the museum and got some flowers. Thor--still weird to say just real casual like--was cryptic about Christmas at the Devil's Nest. Gregorith had acall from home about being sick and stuff here. And his neighbor, Hannibal stopped by with cold medicine. That's pretty nice of him.

Okay, that should be everything. I'm getting out of here before this becomes a regular thing. I like to sleep in, you know? This isn't really my thing.

*sad chittering*

Nope, not falling for that. Bye now.

Needful Things; Friday Noon Onwards

Harley had been bouncing around off the island for the past week or so, after the Slaughter Swamp incident and the surprise visit to New York that had followed. She'd actually been planning (as much as Harley planned anything) to continue on in that same vein - but then there had been a phone call about a delivery on the island, for an order that she'd completely forgotten about.

So she'd had to rush back to Fandom to let some big burly delivery guys into the building, so that they could bring in the big honkin' canopy bed she'd ordered while on the fall break trip. Because there'd been canopy beds there, and she'd kind of been between beds for a while now, and was easily influenced sometimes when it came to treating herself, and, you know. That whole thing.

So that had been her morning.

By noon, things upstairs in the apartment were settled - a mess, but settled! - and the store door was open, and Harley was downstairs, puttering around with a giant mug of coffee.

Considering taking the Halloween decor down. Not actually doing it yet.

Last night had been a restless one, and once settled behind his desk at the station, Watts found himself eyeing the space beneath his desk with occasional longing as he contemplated just a little nap to catch up on his sleep.

No. No naps. There was work to do. Phone calls about alcohol-stealing raccoons to answer.

Library, Thursday 11/13

"I wasn't planning on reading about ghost sharks," Belle said, looking longingly at the book she'd brought with her.

The gremlin holding out a book toward her showed off its teeth and Belle sighed.

"If you insist," she said. "Were you hoping I'd read it to you?"

The gremlin nodded and plopped down at her feet.

"Very well then."

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse, Thursday, Per 3

Messages had gone out to the students letting them know that tomorrow's lesson would involve a Danger Shop version of a spa, and so bring appropriate clothing and to message her on the side if you had any concerns. Thus, nobody should be surprised when they walked into the Danger Shop and discovered Liliana getting a manicure and a pedicure at the same time with four different attendants. There were other pedicure seats around for people to sit in, but also regular chairs as well, for people who did not wish to start their class with a mani-pedi.

To each their own and all that.

"In media, the apocalypse always happens at convenient times, even if it doesn't seem like it," she told the class. "You're either wearing clothing or have time to put some on, all the way to socks, shoes, and outer gear appropriate to the weather. If anybody is caught in the bathroom, they are inevitably a zombie put there for comedic effect or shock value. It's rare that a person - especially a main character - has to deal with the apocalypse while underdressed, or worse still, undressed."

She freed a hand and gestured to the interior of the spa. "So that's what's going to happen today. Change into whatever clothing you brought along with you, and then feel free to wander. There are pools, hot tubs, jacuzzis, saunas, showers, restaurants, and massages available to you. At some point, zombies will attack and it's your job to fight them off or escape. Pay attention in each feature you visit; are there things you can use as weapons? Ways you can slow them down? Places to hide? Do you run back to the changing area to put proper clothing on, or do you fight in a swimsuit or bathrobe? Best of luck surviving the day!"

She waved at them and then turned to begin a discussion of nail polish colors with one of the technicians.

It needs to be soon.

"It needs to be when the time is right," Thor countered Don, who was sitting, to his eye, on his usual barstool. Since he was not sitting there to anyone else's eye, Tiny gave Thor the side eye at this proclamation, and Thor told him blandly, "The Christmas tree, of course."

Guys played by Chris Hemsworth were united in insisting on appropriate seasonality of Christmas decorations, apparently.

Lydia had had a hankering for Greek food for some reason, and had only realized upon arrival at Estiatorio Plaka that the Supper Club had been here previously.

This was why a witch needed a familiar who wasn't resident on some distant island, to keep up with this kind of thing for her.

Well. This was slightly embarrassing, since the goal of the Supper Club was to try new things, but she remembered the food being quite good, so it was probably fine. Welcome to Supper Club, everyone!

Food Adventures, Thursday, First Period

"All right, folks!" Raiden said with an enthusiastic clap of his hands once everyone had assembled. "This week we're heading to my country of origin, although I've only been where we're going today once, with a previous class, because one of my brothers is...dramatic." No, not that one. (Castor. It was Castor.) "See, I'm from Corinth, which is a little bit west of where we'll be going today: Athens, Greece! Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a recorded history going back almost three and a half thousand years, and evidence of people living in the area going back to...like...thirteen thousand years ago. In ancient times, Athens was one of the most powerful city-states in what is now Greece, and it's considered the birthplace of democracy and the cradle of what we consider Western civilization. In modern times, the metropolitan area is home to almost a third of the population of Greece, home to numerous museums and historical sites like the Acropolis...and they've got some very delicious food.

"Greek food is a Mediterranean diet, which means that it's based on certain things: wheat; olive oil, wine, and seafood traditionally more than red meat, although these days meat is more common...though usually sheep or goat over beef, because the terrain in most of Greece isn't overly suited to cattle. Greece was one of the earliest wine-producing areas in the world, and the olive oil and yogurt from Greece are renowned worldwide. They use a lot of phyllo, which is very thin sheets of dough used for making pastries, both sweet like baklava and savory like spanakopita. Some other Greek foods you may be familiar with include feta cheese, moussaka, which is a delicious baked eggplant casserole with ground lamb, horiatiki, more commonly known in English as 'Greek salad,' tzatziki, a sauce made of that delicious Greek yogurt and cucumber, and gyros or souvlaki, the Greek version of fast food made from meat roasted on a spit. While we're in Athens I would also encourage you to try retsina, a wine made with pine resin that's been produced since ancient times, or ouzo, an anise-flavored spirit." If you did try both of these, you might be left with the suspicion that Raiden was secretly evil. Or you might like them. Who could say?

"I'm starving, so let's head through our portal to Athens and get started on our self-guided food tour!"

The Great British Bakeoff! But American! - (11/13)

The baking 'tent' had an assortment of flours and cans of tomatoes at the ready for when class arrived. Which was possibly a hint as to what they were going to be doing today! Or maybe not depending on your knowledge of food here. They'd judge, though. They for sure would. On this occasion.

"So, pizza," Tony said. "It's something you can easily order, but why not learn to make it?"

The kitchen fires were why, and those were just when Steve forgot to take it out of the box.

"It seems like simple enough ingredients," Steve agreed, "and even bad pizza is still pizza!"

Tony's expression said he was both wrong and somehow not wrong all at once. Pizza was like that. "First we want you to show us your favorite regional pizza. California, Colorado, New Haven... whatever you like."

"Unless you like the one with processed cheese slices on it, then show us a different favorite pizza," Steve said.

"Please don't do that one," Tony said, looking horrified. "But after that's done, we'll be having you try your hand at making a classic, margherita pizza."

"And for homework, you need to make casserole." Steve, don't be like this.

"The least pizza of the pizzas... the Chicago deep dish," Tony added. Because they were both New Yorkers and had to.

"I'll eat it," Steve said, "but I eat everything."

Nothing for the Dorms, while in Town, Gray was at Over Easy losing the war on Christmas. There were no signs of this conflict at Pick Your Poison, though Adrian did get Rey bringing him lunch, as well as drop in visits from Pam and Lydia.

Currently Steven was reading up on something about a zombie invasion which happened two decades prior.

Steven couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to get caught in something like that. Assuming he ever was caught in something like that instead of someone else taking his job for some reason.

Preposterous idea, really. Who would even think of such a thing?

Steven continued his reading, though of course he was interruptible should anyone need him.

Health Education, Wednesday, Second Period

"Let's talk about nutrition," Don said to his students today. "Now, this is a complicated area of study, because scientists are discovering new things all the time, and there's a lot of bad information out there besides. Also, everyone's nutritional needs are different, whether that's from one human to another or from one species to another. Thor, for instance, needs to eat a lot more calories than I do, because the Aesir are three times as dense as humans, and that's a lot of mass to maintain. But for the most part, you should try to eat a balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fats. You should try to eat some plants. Plants are good for you. Ideally you should eat less processed foods, things that are made from recognizable ingredients, but I feel like a hypocrite telling you that after the way I ate during my residency."

Don passed out a handout on the subject. "There's more in depth information here, but again, these are more rules than guidelines. You need to do what works best for you. But eat some plants, seriously."

Weetiny Weekend! November 15th through 17th

Hello everyone! It's time to weetiny! Students, teachers, and townies alike will wake up as pint-sized versions of themselves next weekend, from Saturday November 15th through Monday November 17th.

A quick reminder about how this works:

- Participation is completely optional.
- If you choose to participate, your character needs to wake up as a kid (ages 4-10) on Saturday morning and stay that way the whole weekend until waking up back to normal on Tuesday morning.
- The kids won't be terrified to wake up in Fandom, due to the wackiness. It's more like they've always been here.
- Clothing will be shrunk down as well, and all the weapons will turn into toys so no one can hurt themselves accidentally.
- This is open to alumni and expats as well!

Time to go hunting for stock photos of small children, pics of your PB as a child actor, or screencaps from a flashback episode! Questions, comments, witty stories?

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 11/12

Good morning, it’s Wednesday as usual and I’m here, as usual.

3 notes from the school today. Reclaiming Your Childhood made artwork featuring glitter. Of course there was glitter. Diplomacy watched a movie about a girl and a giant robot who is also a car and I have no idea what that has to do with diplomacy but that’s fine. Sometimes you need a movie day. And my class on Dealing With Other People’s Trauma discussed veterans and the effects of war on people.

The porg isn’t even here today so I assume there are no notes from the dorms. I hope he’s all right.

Just a small number of notes from the town from yesterday. Gregorith, who I haven’t met yet, wasn’t feeling well. Hopefully he improves soon. And finally Marc went to the Perk for coffee and baked goods and apparently conversation though I doubt he really planned on that part. Henry shared her glitter and Marc shared his baked goods while they talked. And then I came in and got coffee as well but I did not take any of the baked goods. We just talked a bit and I'm now wondering if I ought to be frightened of beavers...

And that’s all I have from yesterday for today.

Adrian was flipping through an ecological magazine he'd snagged while out on the mainland. There was an article about turning recycled plastics into clothing, which seemed cool on the surface until you realized that once the plastics got turned into clothing, they couldn't be recycled again. With a small chuckle, he left a Post-It with Check this out, Pam! tucked into the magazine, already imagining her reaction.

Sometimes, the thing you needed to get back onto an even keel is just some light, good-natured trolling of your boss.

Huh. There were a bunch of music books out around the library. Arden found one for guitars, basses, drums, even keyboards. Books about music, books teaching people how to play the instruments, books about caring and maintaining them. Even books about cutting a demo and sending it around to record labels.

Arden wasn't sure if the gremlins were starting a band, or there was something else in the library that was thinking about it (possibly even the library itself?), but all afternoon she heard strains of music coming from different areas, sometimes just warmup exercises and chords, sometimes whole songs.

Couldn't find the musicians when she went looking for them, of course. But could definitely hear them.

"Hey!" she called at one point. "Seven Nation Army?"

A long moment of silence, and from over near the biographies section, the slow reverberations of a bass guitar. Bum bumbum bum bumbuuuuumbuuummm. Bum bum bumbum bum bumbumbuuummm...

It had happened earlier that morning, like a promise of all the mornings ahead where they'd be roughly pulled out of sleep by the demands of a tiny little human, but Prompto was ready, he was preparing for this since....well, all of last month, really, so getting Liz to the hospital to have their baby went....

Well, he wouldn't use the word smoothly, there was no small amount of chaos, but it did go quickly, and then once there? It was just a matter of time and a lot of anxious pacing on Prompto's part and a lot of...well...a lot more work on Liz's. And a lot of questions from Noctra that Prompto thought he'd be prepared for, but...well...there was just a lot going on, okay, interspersed with moment of waiting that made for an interesting juxtaposition.

Finally, though, he was able to send out the text announcement to friends and family that he'd been itching to send out since...well, all of last month, really:

Welcome to the world
Trevor Corleonis Argentum!!!

He, of course, included loads of pictures of the wrinkly little boy, especially with his proud mama and very uncertain looking big sister, and mentioned how everything had gone really well, hospital room information if anyone wanted to swing by with well-wishes or whatever else, and then he was going to be completely over the moon over this new additional bright light in their lives.

APPLICATIONS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS FOR SPRING 2026!

Hello everyone! It's time again for applications!

To apply, read the following information, click the link to the application form, fill it out for the character you want to play, and send it off!

ExpandThe basics you need to know )

* At this point, the school is now officially a collegiate setting. All student applications must be for college students or grad students.

* Teachers are required to teach at least one class/workshop per week, and be accessible to students when needed. This also applies for characters applying to teach an adult class at the Community Center, rather than one at the school.

* If you would like to apply for a new character to teach an adult workshop, fill out the Character Application exactly as if you were applying for a teacher, but mark it "Townie" instead. Note in the Course Description that it would be an adult workshop, not a student workshop. Because of the need to keep track of the adult workshops being offered and start them at the same time, these applications will be processed on the same schedule as student/teacher applications.

* Current townies or teachers can also apply to teach an adult workshop. If you would like to teach an adult workshop with a current character, you can fill out a limited application by following the instructions here.

* See this post for more about character activity.

* All accepted characters go on probation for the first month. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is causing problems, we'll talk to them about it and possibly discuss removal from the game. It's very difficult to get to the removal stage.

* Improvisation. Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvisation where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.
